In order to make ourselves known in the community, we have several traditional activities orchestrated by our Age-Level and Family Ministries committee all throughout the year.
Spring: The Easter Celebration is held each year on the Saturday before Easter. We invite children in our church as well as our community to come and participate in an Easter Egg hunt. Of course, we also have games, crafts and story-telling. In May or June we celebrate Pentecost Sunday with a picnic after church and Sunday School. All members are invited as well as other guests. Everyone is encouraged to wear red.
Summertime: What would the summer be without Vacation Bible School? We have a week-long Vacation Bible school that is usually the third week in June. We are fortunate to have many of our senior youth take part in helping out with Bible school. Our Vacation Bible school takes place in the morning and we extend a warm welcome to other children in our community. On July 4th, we celebrate with a picnic at a member’s home or at our church picnic shelter where everyone is invited to come and bring a guest. We enjoy the outdoors, play games, eat and enjoy the fellowship.
Autumn: In fall, we have our Harvest Celebration. It is another chance to invite neighbors and community members to attend. There is always Bingo, a cake walk, children's games, and other activities outdoors at church. We usually celebrate Thanksgiving together with a traditional lunch on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Winter: On the first Saturday of Advent, we have Hanging of the Greens to decorate the church and grounds for the Christmas season. On the last Sunday evening before Christmas., we end the year with our Christmas program. Some years it includes adult actors in a play. Every year the program includes our Christmas Pageant with children (and sometimes adults) enacting the nativity scene. Oh, and it always includes plenty of Christmas carols.
Communications: All of the activities listed above are conveyed to our congregation by a printed weekly bulletin insert that includes event dates, times, and details. These announcements are reviewed at the end of our Sunday service each week. We also communicate through a phone system called One All Tell All that has been very effective in getting phone messages to the congregation in a timely manner when needed. Events, missions, and volunteer opportunities are also posted on the Bethany Facebook page.
